Hunchies

App Design

After an evening of trying to play Pictionary with friends using a word generator app, another phone for a timer, a scrap piece of paper for the score, and a sliding glass door for our drawing surface - we knew there had to be an easier way. After searching the app store, we weren't able to find an app that combined all of the steps of the game and provided a delightful digital experience. So after some mimosas and pancakes, my husband, two friends, and I came up with Hunchies. I worked on the branding, the Hunchies characters, and the UI design of the app and the social media graphics. The project is currently on hold, but will hopefully be developed in the near future!

Below are the two possible user journeys for the Hunchies game to allow for more accessibility: Airplay Mode or Traditional Mode. Both game modes have the same outcome in displaying a results screen, but allow users to use a TV screen or a traditional drawing surface.

Once the teams and the category have been selected, Team 1 will kick off the game by choosing which teammate will be their first artist. The phone will both display the word and be the drawing surface. Team 1 teammates will be able to see the live drawing and the timer reflected on the TV. As they guess each drawing correctly the artist can press the correct button for the next word or press the skip button if their teammates are struggling to guess the drawing.

When brainstorming, we realized that Airplay mode is currently only accessible if you have an Apple TV. Knowing that not all households will carry this device or if players are in an outdoor setting, we incorporated a mode that allows you to have your own drawing surface and the app will take care of everything else.
