National History Academy

Branding

The Journey Through Hallowed Ground, a nonprofit organization that educates and connects people to areas of American History, came to 829 to develop the identity of a new initiative: National History Academy. The academy is a summer experience opportunity for high school students to explore American History in a whole new way: through the power of place. We worked on creating brand personality traits, a brand personality spectrum, and a mood board with imagery from both online references and references found in the library. I then worked on a concept that became the NHA identity. It centered around elements of the past, an earth tone color palette to bring an explorative feel inspired by the region and sites along the journey, and the emboldened “History” in the logo pays homage to traditional American typefaces and emphasizes the curriculum, while the sans-serif capstones provide a modern relevance.
